Winnie is a happy-go-lucky Golden Retriever and vital member of our family. She brings joy and sunshine wherever she goes. This is our story.
A medical emergency….
A medical emergency in spring 2023, landed our Golden girl Winnie in an emergency animal hospital with a suspected bleeding lesion in her stomach. Surgical removal and biopsy confirmed it was a plasma cell cancer tumor. After surgery, we declined the recommendation for chemotherapy as there were no guarantees it would prevent the tumor from returning. Instead, we opted for a holistic treatment approach with Dr. Haghighat and his team at The Holistic Vet.
A holistic treatment approach…
With guidance from Dr. H., the initial treatment approach focused on Vitamin C infusions to help keep Winnie’s immune system strong. A range of supplements were added to her existing home cooked meals including Chinese herbs, (Turkey Tail and Chaga Mushroom Extract), Krill oil and vitamins. Abdominal ultrasounds were scheduled to monitor her condition.
Along the way, a new stomach tumor was identified via an ultrasound. Despite the presence of the tumor, Winnie’s health and well being remain excellent. While surgical removal was an option the second time, we elected not to, instead we doubled down on our holistic plan adding alternating treatments of low dose Ivermectin and Fenbendazole to help manage her condition. Both are easy to administer treatments added to her food. The beauty of our holistic approach, we follow Winnie’s lead and can adjust her treatment plan on the fly. We are learning as we go and so far, so good!
Life today…
Winnie is a testament to the practice of holistic medicine. She is living her best life. Almost 3 years on from the initial event, Winnie is energetic as ever. In January 2026, we celebrated her 9th birthday. Every day is a gift.
Thank you, Dr. Haghighat!
